The Catholic Charities Servant Leadership Initiative VISTA program, rooted in Detroit and extends its reach to the surrounding areas. What duties are expected from a VISTA member serving as part of the Catholic Charities Servant Leadership Initiative?

VISTA members within the Catholic Charities Servant Leadership Initiative will serve as catalysts for community transformation. They will collaborate with local food and employment programs, identifying needs and implementing sustainable solutions to address poverty and inequality. Their responsibilities include building partnerships, organizing resources, and empowering individuals through mentorship and support. VISTAs will engage in capacity-building activities, such as fundraising and volunteer recruitment, to strengthen the program's impact and reach. By embodying the principles of servant leadership, they will advocate for marginalized communities, amplifying their voices and fostering inclusivity. What type of program benefits will a member receive?

Individual VISTA member benefits include a stipend, Education award upon successful completion of service, Living Allowance, Health Coverage*, Childcare assistance if eligible, Choice of Education Award or End-of-Service Stipend, Training, and Relocation Allowance. 

What are the program dates or terms of service?

The Initiative plans to start from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.  


Education Requirements

Applicants must be a university or college graduate / or within six months of completion.   

When are applications accepted?

Applications open from 06/01/2024 To 12/01/2024 

We are currently accepting applications for these opportunities and will continue to accept applications through December 1, 2024.  

How can I apply?

As a grantee of the AmeriCorps VISTA program, all applicants must begin their journey for the Catholic Charities Servant Leadership Initiative through the AmeriCorps application portal.  You must register, apply, and submit your application through this portal.  Read the Guide to Completing your AmeriCorps application here or contact Nick Herman at 586-221-3402 or hermann@ccsem.org

No. The Catholic Charities Servant Leadership Initiative includes 6 nonprofit organizations spread throughout 9 locations in Southeast Michigan
