Frequently Asked Questions

What is Walking with Moms in Need?
Walking with Moms in Need is a year of service during which Catholic parishes and communities “walk in the shoes” of local pregnant and parenting women in need.  Everyone should know how to help moms in difficult circumstances.

Is Walking with Moms in Need a shelter or clinic?
No – Walking with Moms in Need is not a shelter or clinic.  Walking with Moms in Need is a community-wide resource initiative to help pregnant and parenting moms in need throughout our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.

Was there a reason for launching this initiative now?
Yes, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) established “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service,” to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Evangelium vitae (The Gospel of Life).

Will the Walking with Mom's in Need resources be available for a limited time only?
Yes and No – let us explain. Only the nationwide effort “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service,” is for a limited time [March 25, 2020, to March 25, 2021].  The resources, relationships, partnerships, and efforts created throughout the year, will be available long after the service year concludes.

What parish, organization or group is organizing our Southeast Michigan community-wide resources?
The “Walking with Moms In Need” efforts throughout Southeast Michigan is a joint venture partnership between the Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) and Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan.  As the charitable arm for the corporal works of mercy throughout the AOD, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan is honored and excited to help develop this project for many years to come.
