2017 Adopt-a-Family for Christmas Program Assists 261 Families
Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan has provided nearly $155,000 in monetary assistance to 261 families this 2017 Christmas season. Through its Adopt-a-Family for Christmas ministry, Catholic Charities collected donations from 190 benefactors. In operation since 1990, the Adopt-a-Family ministry helps those enduring significant financial hardship and other challenges.
“As the charitable service arm of the Archdiocese of Detroit, this program demonstrates our continuous focus on the corporal works of mercy for those in greatest need in our community,” said Dave Bartek, CEO for Catholic Charities. “With the cooperation of more than 80 Catholic parishes and organizations in the Archdiocese of Detroit, along with the generosity of those who donated, CCSEM was able to provide monetary assistance to families from communities throughout the six counties of southeast Michigan.”
In addition to monetary donations, Bartek said Catholic Charities helped to facilitate in-kind donations of items for some of the families selected by special requests from individuals, groups and business benefactors. “We put donors in contact with the parishes or organization representatives to offer additional help for families such as clothing, toys, and other necessary items,” he said.
He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.
