Kathryn Brown

Kathryn earned her Bachelors of Science degree, specializing in psychology and addiction studies, in 2012. She obtained her Master of Arts, specializing in social work, from Wayne State University in 2014. She is a licensed social worker in the state of Michigan and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). Kathryn joined the Catholic Charities team in 2018. She has expertise with adolescents and adults in substance use and addiction, anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, crisis management, anger management, marriage and relationship conflict, and self-worth and self-esteem. Kathryn employs a client-centered and strength-based approach to therapy, incorporating psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, brief-solution focused treatment, and dialectical behavior therapy. Prior to CCSEM, Kathryn practiced as a residential therapist at Community Programs Inc., and an outpatient therapist at Oakland Family Services.  Kathryn’s treatment philosophy is: “Every client who comes through my door has the capabilities to change and grow. We use the therapy process to determine where the client is at, what strengths they have to get where they want to be, and how we can increase those strengths and their belief in themselves regarding their ability for change.”
